One of the first things that  comes into your mind is quality.  It’s important to have a life jacket for your dog that is actually a viable life-saving device. One thing to be careful of is cheaply made products. That could be cheap materials that easily fray or break, or a bad design that doesn’t allow your dog to be comfortable AND safe, or even material that could be hazardous to your dog.  Always shop for quality first, as safety is the most important reason that your dog should have a life jacket.

Second is price. There are a lot of companies out there with pretty logos and designs that are more then happy to over charge you for your pets well being. Personally, it makes me sick. It’s like over paying for a car seat for your child. There are plenty of good options available at reasonable prices. Often chain pets stores have a good mark-up on the prices of dog life jackets.

Third is fashion. Yes, I said it, fashion. I know  it sounds kind of funny, but if you think about it, you buy all kinds of other things for you dog that are fashionable, why not a life jacket for when it goes near or in the water. Standard colors include bright orange and bright yellow, but there are many styles that still aid in protecting the dog in the water without sacrificing making your dog look like a 1980’s buoy. Other colors available are red, blue, black (still safe with the reflectors on it)patterns and prints and much more.
