The bright sunshine in the cloudless blue sky glistened over the racing ocean waves as they urgently pounded in a rhythm that could lull anyone to sleep. Smelling that fresh ocean air is intoxicating yet invigorating.
In fact, a sleepy man lay in his hammock that was tied between two palm trees on the beach. He seemed to be drifting off, then he would hear the laughter of an adult female and her happy dogs, their playful barks, and he would stir a bit, half opening his eyes.
A beautiful summer day was in full bloom and dog safety near water was at hand. There were two black dogs fetching balls in the ocean with a young adult woman who was playing with them. She knows where they are at any given moment.
Having said that, dog safety near water is too important for anyone to ignore. Dog owners need to take it very serious, lest losing her pet by drowning. Keeping an eye out for any dangers while a dog is on a boat, wading in creek water, a river, or in the ocean is practicing dog safety near water.
One principle for dog owners is to always have doggies wear a life jacket, that is if you want to keep your pet. Do not ever let any dog in a body of water without one on, unless it is a small backyard pool. Water is extremely powerful and can suck a dog underneath in the blink of an eye, so know that dogs do drown.
Also, make certain the safety gear always has a reflective strip so Fido can be seen in his life jacket. These life jackets should also come with a handle for lifting a dog out of the water if on a boat. Animals are unpredictable in an emergency and they can react very thoughtlessly, panicking. The handle makes it easier for dog retrieval.
Another principle that is of the utmost importance is using common sense at any time with a pet, especially one that is put in water. Do not let him or her in too deep, around currents, drains, or graveled bottoms that can cut his feet. If ocean-side, watch out for pinching crabs, biting fish, stinging jellyfish and other sea creatures.
Wash your dog with fresh water after swimming to free the coat of chemicals if he was in a pool or hot tub. Wash off saltwater if he was in the ocean. It is not a good idea to expose a dog to chlorine or other harsh chemicals. Make sure to dry the dog’s ears well and try hair conditioner for his fur and skin.
